Today marks a major step forward in that vision with the launch of Workflows for Data Solutions. A year ago, we quietly rolled out access to Data Solutions (DS) to users — mostly technical data experts at sophisticated organizations — so that they could query our data to detect threat actors in their areas of responsibility (AORs) and automate their workflows. After encouraging feedback from those power users, we are now making these capabilities accessible to non-technical users. With Workflows, we aim to give every Chainalysis user the superpowers of an expert data scientist — the ability to uncover mission-relevant threat intelligence and automate complex workflows without writing a single line of code.

Proactive threat detection is one of the greatest promises of a more transparent financial system built on blockchains. Investigating one illicit crypto transaction can uncover an entire network of bad actors. Understanding the on-chain fingerprint of an illicit group can lead to the discovery of previously unknown activity. Until now, this work was entirely manual and time consuming. But as Coinbase demonstrated in their recent fentanyl sprint, Chainalysis DS helped them map and disrupt complex criminal ecosystems. Workflows in DS scales this kind of work by automating repeatable steps and surfacing relevant on-chain insights for any investigator. That automation reduces manual effort, saves time and ultimately helps teams become more proactive, efficient, and strategic in how they detect and disrupt threats.
How Workflows works
Workflows in DS brings interactive no-code experiences that guide users through advanced blockchain analysis with a simple, fill-in-the-blanks style interface. Users can now run complex analytical tasks in just a few clicks, without writing any SQL or Python.
Techniques that previously required support from specialized technical experts can now be executed through intuitive, guided workflows, turning hours or days of work into moments with actionable insights.
Technical users can still retain full SQL and Python access when they want it, while non-technical users gain unprecedented analytical independence. Entire organizations move faster, together.
We are launching with a few powerful workflows, including:
- Timing & Amount Analysis: Narrow likely deposit/withdrawal matches from a service to help you identify transactions of interest faster.
- Threat Actor Network Expansion via Mutual Counterparty Analysis: Uncover the shared counterparties of hundreds of threat actors with a few clicks instead of manually sorting through thousands of counterparties.
- Targeted Wallet & Cluster Search: Find wallets that match precise threat actor fingerprints using a number of filters including exposure, transactional activity, and service characteristics.
The future of Workflows
We plan to expand to hundreds of no-code workflows over time. These mini applications will enable users to automate even their most complex tasks. We’re prioritizing outcomes our customers care about most, for example:
- Threat detection: disrupt sophisticated threat actors proactively by modeling their precise fingerprints and monitoring them
- Ecosystem-wide views: inform operational strategy with a holistic view of any threat area or ecosystem

Our vision for Data Solutions is to give every Chainalysis user the superpowers of a data scientist. This vision rests on two pillars: Workflows and AI.
